We all have people in our lives that we wish we could just sit down with and listen to what they have to say. But often these people have no idea we exist, so an invitation to have coffee with them will never happen. I follow some pastors and leaders who are truly on mission with Jesus… they are making disciples everywhere and are fully committed to teaching truth. They inspire me on my own journey. Some of them are now in heaven. But as far as I know, I will never have the opportunity to have a one-on-one with them this side of heaven.

However, an invitation has been issued for you and me… a far grander invitation than to have a meal with some of the most noteworthy people on this earth. Our key verse tells us that we are invited to come to God (the One who sits on the highest throne) and listen to what He has to say. And when we do, He will share His heart with us. Now, that’s an invitation I want to answer EVERY day. Why is that? Because I want to know what He’s thinking. I want to know what His plans are for the world, the church, Christians, and even my family. I want to know what He says about how I am to live that will bring glory to Him.

God’s plans are the only plans that matter. God’s way is the only way that makes sense. And He wants us to know what His plans are and the way we are to go. I may see how other Christians are acting but are they acting the way God says they are to act? Hence, I want to do what’s right and live in a way that honors Jesus, my King. There are people in my life that are role-models, but they are prone to fail. They may not always lead me down the right path. But God will if I come and sit and listen to Him!

And when I do this, He pours out His wisdom into me. Godly wisdom! And in my mind, there is nothing more valuable than having Godly wisdom. Especially in the day in which we’re living. Here’s the thing… Godly wisdom cannot be attained through books, resources, people, the news, or the Internet. And it’s certainly not attained through a family line. Godly wisdom can only be poured out into us by answering the invitation to come and sit and listen. Each of us can walk around with wisdom from above.

So, will you rearrange your schedule today for a one-on-one with God? Will you put something on the back burner in order to hear what God has to say? Will you carve out some time to sit for a while? Imagine the smile on Jesus’ face when we do that? Imagine the joy it brings to His heart? When you come, make sure to bring your Bible with you. Because His Word is the #1-way God speaks in this day. As you sit with God, read out loud His Word. When you do this, you WILL hear Him speak. You will learn what’s important to Him. You will know what’s on His heart.
