I think one of the biggest questions Christians ask is… “Am I in the center of God’s will for my life?” If we don’t ask that, we should. It should be the goal for every Christ follower to be walking in God’s will. The other thing we often wonder… Does God have a specific will for my life? Well, our verse today from Romans unmasks God’s will and how we can be sure we are in the center of it.
Let’s begin by unpacking the last part of this verse… “Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” First, God has a specific will for each of us. Some of the things are the same for every believer… like, living in righteousness, walking in integrity, loving others, standing on truth, praying, etc. But God has a specific will for each Christian. Therefore, it’s important that we walk in that will. Why? Because His will is good and pleasing and perfect. We could never live in freedom outside His will. We could never know peace that passes all understanding outside His will. We could never operate in the fullness of the power that resides in us outside His will.
Now the question becomes… how do I know what His will is for my life? I’m glad you asked! This verse tells us how we can know. 1) “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of the world!” Reminder… the world and God stand on opposite sides. What the world promotes, God does not. What God promotes, the world does not. The world promotes idolatry, sinful lifestyles, religion, antisemitism (don’t be fooled by this because we are to love Israel), Islam (again, don’t be fooled by this because Satan is the orchestrator of Islam). Sadly, Christians are being sucked in by the things of this world… all in the name of love, tolerance, and acceptance.
And 2) “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think!” Transformation comes from our thinking believe it or not. We should make time with Jesus in prayer and His Word every day and every day, we should ask Him to transform our hearts. We should come to Him with open hearts, ready to receive His Word and willing to change our thinking. Every day we should bring our crazy thoughts to Him and lay them at the cross, asking Him to transform us. Transformation should be daily.
When we do these things, then we can know God’s will for our lives. Let’s seek to be transformed today! Let’s align ourselves with His will even if it means that I stand alone. Tell Him right now that you want to know His will for your life and to help you walk in it. Hope this encourages you today.
