I doubt we really understand how blessed we are. We as Christians have been delivered from the condemnation of sin, we have an inheritance waiting for us, and God is on our side. One of the greatest blessings, though, is the One who lives in us – the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. We CANNOT do anything for God’s Kingdom or make a difference in the lives of others without His help. But here’s the thing… the Holy Spirit is often misrepresented, misunderstood, and misused. Two things that we need to be aware of… there is wacked out theology regarding the Holy Spirit and Christians often forget He lives in them. Francis Chan saw this and he wrote a book, “Forgotten God.” Our key verse from Romans 8:26 today tells us that the Holy Spirit is our helper. So, what I want us to do today is acknowledge Him and ask Him to do in us what the Bible tells us He does for us. I would like for you to pray these things along with me, addressing the Holy Spirit…
Holy Spirit… Lead me! Lead me to truth. Lead me on the pathway God has put before me. Help me to not stray. Lead me as I navigate through this life when I’m grieving, hurting, frustrated, and bewildered.
Holy Spirit… Teach me! Teach me Your Word. Teach me how to live, how to love, how to serve, how to walk. Open up the Bible for me so that I understand what may be difficult, hard to grasp, and hidden from my sight. Be my teacher and teach me Your ways.
Holy Spirit… Convict me! Convict my heart of the wrong things I’m doing and the sin that I am engaged in right now. Convict my heart when I speak words that hurt or my actions have negatively affected someone. Convict me when I’ve quenched You, Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit… Awaken me! Awaken my heart to truth. Awaken my spirit to spiritual things. Holy Spirit, bring me out of a slumbering sleep so that I can walk with my eyes opened wide and my heart fully engaged with You.
Holy Spirit… Help me! Help me in my weakness. Help me today to make good decisions, to be a light in the darkness, and to overcome the enemy’s stronghold. Help me to be an ambassador for Your Kingdom and always point toward You. Help me to see the needs in others and to walk beside them and pray for them.
Holy Spirit… Pray for me! I ask Holy Spirit that You would pray for me when I just don’t know how to pray. Let Your words go before me for my prodigal, my health concerns, my friend’s difficulties, and for my marriage. I ask You Holy Spirit to pray with groanings before my Father for the Church, the government, and for the leaders on the front lines of this grueling war.
When we acknowledge the Holy Spirit’s presence and we simply ask Him to do in us what He is meant to do, we have greater strength, resilience, and power. We should never forget Him and we should search Scriptures on the truth about the Holy Spirit rather than adopted some wacked out theology on the third person of the Trinity. Let the Holy Spirit be your comfort and help today.
