My family loves to watch movies. But they all know that I have a strict rule banning R rated movies. Trust me, it’s hard to find good movies that are not rated R. But the reason why I ban them is because R rated movies are almost always filled with foul language You know what I’m saying, right? Some of the language is very offensive to me. And it seems that the writers, directors, and producers love to use foul language a thousand times in one sentence… every other word sometimes. I feel sick to my stomach when I hear it. Of course, there are many other reasons why I do not watch R rated movies.

I’ve heard people say to me… “I don’t even hear it anymore because I’m used to foul language. I worked around it all the time.” That’s becoming immune to it. There are other sins that Christians are immune to as well, like… living together without being married, homosexual relationships, cheating on taxes, lying on application forms, etc. These things have become so common that we often don’t bat an eyelid anymore. But foul language may be one of the worst sins we’ve become immune to. Paul writes in Colossians 3:8: “But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.”

Getting rid of it not only means that I don’t speak it, but that I also don’t let it into my mind, into my heart, and into my home. YOU can call the shots in your house. YOU can call the shots in your car, in your space. In fact, you can ask people to refrain from swearing around you. They will honor it.

Becoming immune to sin is a scary path to be on… our key verse from James says that it’s sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. So, if we know that the Bible labels something sin, then we need to stay away from it. Let’s not become immune to sin like so many other Christians are. Let’s call it what it is and run from it.Hope this encourages you today.
