Every time I go to Niagara Falls, I am captivated by the power and never-ending flow of the water. It’s a waterfall that never ends. In fact,
the water is so strong that no one could ever conquer it. Niagara Falls is a picture of the love that has been poured out into our hearts. It’s a love so strong that nothing (not even the powers of hell – Romans 8:38-39) cannot separate us from it. There are several forms of love the Bible speaks about, but the love that’s poured into our hearts is an AGAPE love – the highest form of biblical love. It’s a self-sacrificing, faithful, and eternal love. It’s a love that took Jesus to the cross.
When I was sixteen, I was captivated by His love. I had accepted Christ as my Savior when I was nine, but at sixteen His love knocked me to the floor. The pastor speaking to us on this high school retreat asked, “When was the last time you told the Lord you loved Him?” At that moment, a love I had never really known captured my heart as I thought about all that He had done for me. I have never been the same since. There is NOTHING more beautiful than the love of our Father.
When I went to Israel, the weirdest thing happened the moment I stepped onto that holy land. I felt I had come home, yet I had never been there before. I’m guessing it’s because of the love of Jesus that was poured out into my heart - a love that draws me in. Since Jesus walked those roads and died in that land, and I have His love filling my heart, I felt at home there. His love should make us feel at home in His presence.
Because His love is a continuous fountain, it should make us feel alive, comforted, protected, safe, and at home with Him. His love guides me when I’m struggling to see the way, watches over me when the enemy is hot on my trail, conquers my fears, and carries me when the difficulties are overwhelming. In fact, His love carries each of us… and will carry us all the way home.
With this information before us, what should we do with His love? We should bask in it (enjoy it), abide in it, live in it, and run toward it. We should put His love at the top of our gratitude list, thanking Him every day for it. And we should ask Him to reveal His love to us today. Let me encourage you to write down how you have witnessed His love today.
