We’ve seen pictures of the Oval Office but most of us have never been in it. We do know that it’s in this office where a lot of important conversations take place, a lot of decisions are made, and a lot of world leaders have sat down with a one-on-one with the President of the United States. As citizens of the United States, we respect this place.

Well, this verse in Daniel gives us a glimpse into a more glorious place than the Oval Office. Daniel and John both saw similar visions of the throne of God. I love this description of the Ancient of Days taking His seat, getting ready to judge the world. Dr. David Jeremiah said that Daniel is visualizing God as literally “the elderly One” or the One who has been around forever. This name for God speaks of His eternity. His clothing and His hair speak of His purity and holiness. The fire speaks of His holiness and judgment against sin and the wheels symbolize His providential working in the world in ways we can’t understand. Both Daniel and John see myriads of angels surrounding His throne, bowing in worship to Him.

I’m awestruck by this vision of the throne of God. But here’s the thing… I’ve been invited into this place to have a one-on-one with the King of the Universe… the One who is seated on the highest throne. The One who reigns forever. And He always makes time for me. He wants to hear what’s on my heart. But more importantly, I want to know what’s on His heart. I want to know what He’s thinking about, what’s important to Him, and what He cares about. I want to know His character. I want to KNOW HIM.

The good news is that I can know all these things. God didn’t just speak to prominent leaders in the church. He speaks to me. He speaks to you. Every morning when I come into His presence – to the place where the Ancient of Days is seated – I have my Bible with me. I ask Him to pierce my heart with His Word. And when I open His Word, I hear Him speak to me… little ‘ole me. The President of the United may not care what it’s important to me, but God does. The President of the United States doesn’t even know I exist, but God does. And He says, “Come my child! Let’s have a one-on-one!” Precious ones, let’s take advantage of this GREAT opportunity today. Let’s seek God’s heart above all things.
