Paul writes these words to his young protege, Timothy. Timothy was much younger than Paul and was being groomed to be a pastor. He would one day lead the church at
Ephesus. In these words, Paul gives him some strong advice: make sure you lead with GOOD TEACHING.
Here's the thing... you, like me, have a sphere of influence. God has brought people into your life... people you are to mentor, walk side-by-side with, and equip for God's work. We are all trainers. We are called to guide people in their faith, to help grow their relationship with Jesus, and speak truth into their life. I'm pretty sure you know who those people are.
Here's the thing... it should be our highest goal to equip them with good teaching so that when we are gone, or they branch out on their own, they are not left wandering and will not follow wrong teachers or voices that are not their Shepherd. I think about John MacArthur's congregants. Since he went home to be with the Lord and while I'm sure they have mourned his death, I'm positive that the good teaching they received from their pastor only solidified their faith. They will carry on his work no doubt. The same with Charlie Kirk, Voddie Baucham, and others.
We may not have the expansive reach they had, but we have an incredible reach. And God is counting on you to invest in them with good teaching. So, it's important you sit under good teaching. Let's help grow and expand people's roots deep into the ground... let's make it our highest goal to equip a generation for the Kingdom of God. Let these words encourage you today.
