Jesus said a lot of things during His time of ministry. But I believe there are three words that transcend everything else… three of the most important words Jesus ever spoke. Of course, everything He said was important. But these three words are REALLY important… important for right now. Important for this moment. Jesus said: “COME TO ME” (Matthew 11:28)! Here is what He didn’t say… He did not say… Come to Me when you are feeling good, when things are going well for you, when you’re healthy, when you’ve got it all together, or when your kids are doing what they’re supposed to be doing. He didn’t say… Come to Me when you have figured it all out, when you have energy, or when your chains have been broken.

  1. When Jesus spoke these words, He was looking into a crowd of people who were sick with disease, worried about their future, wondering if the harvest would be plentiful this year, walking with a limp, hunched over, and people who were trying so hard to do everything right. He was looking into distorted faces. He was looking at people who were carrying heavy burdens and He could see the weight on their shoulders. And He said… “Come to Me.”

Why are these words so important? What is the significance of these words… the truth behind them? Because everything we need for right now is found in Jesus. Jesus knows what you need at this moment. Whether it’s healing, help, guidance, comfort, peace, joy, assurance, or kindness… Jesus is the answer. Jesus wants us to come as we are… with ALL our burdens, hurts, grief, pain, brokenness, limps, dysfunction, and doubts. Even if we have to use a walking stick or if we have to crawl… we need to come. Here’s the thing… it doesn’t take any energy to come. All it takes is a willing spirit.

Jesus is right now holding out His hand for you and wooing you into His presence. He knows what you need. He knows the deepest darkest hurts and pain. He knows you better than you know yourself. All of our needs are met in Jesus. All of our hope is found in Him. All of our burdens are lifted when we come to Him. Circumstances may not change, but we are changed simply by coming.

So, let me encourage you right now to come. Drop what you’re doing and come. Throw down your sword and come. Pick yourself up from the floor and come. Stop scrolling and come. Stop running and come. We can never find what we need until we come. Hope this encourages you today.
