These words in Psalms speak of a vital truth. The world is dark, the path treacherous, the dangers lurking. So, I need a light to guide me. I
would never consider going out for a walk at night without taking a flashlight. The light helps me to see potholes, uneven sidewalks, and obstacles. The light helps me from falling, tripping, stumbling. When I’m driving on my mountain roads in the black night, I always turn on my high beams. I need to see further. My regular headlights only show me a little of what’s in front of me.
Here’s a reminder… every time we step out of our house, we’re entering a dark world. And it’s getting darker by the day. In fact, our regular headlights might have worked for a little while, but we need high beams now. I just watched a video of a pastor explaining about technology today, especially AI. There are some good things about it, but it is very deceptive. Jesus said that in the end days, deception would abound. Well, it’s here now and getting worse. In fact, a day is coming when it will be VERY difficult to tell truth from lies.
I was with my sister, and she was scared to back down her steep driveway. I said, “Colleen, you have a back-up camera.” She said, “I know, but it doesn’t show me everything.” To which I replied, “Yes it does. It shows you the trees, the edge of the driveway, the end of the end of the driveway, and what's right behind your car.” Our back-up cameras are our navigation system sometimes. The Word of God is our navigation system in this world. Without it, we would surely get lost or worse, fall into enemy territory… taken captive by deception.
My encouragement to you is take some time in the morning, before leaving the house, to pour over God’s Word. Let it be your light. And remember, we need high beams now. So, a couple minutes reading the Bible isn’t going to do it anymore. We are blessed to live in a place where we can get Bibles. Having a Bible on your phone is always a good thing but make sure to take a hard copy into your hands, flip the pages, carry it, and take it to church. There’s nothing like having a tangible Bible to use. Let God’s Word be your light today and every day. Hope this encourages you.
