Did you know that this is the most anxious generation ever? My heart goes out to college students on secular campuses. Many of the young people in this day are worried and anxious about the world and what’s going to happen next. The news broadcasters rarely talk about the good things going on… it’s doom and gloom. And COVID made it so much worse. It’s a difficult time for sure. The sad reality is that many Christians are also worried and fretting about tomorrow as well.

Jesus talked a lot about food and nourishment. Here in John 6, Jesus referred to Himself as the Bread of Life. He goes on to say later in this chapter that we need to feast on Him. So, the question becomes… What are you feeding? Your faith or your fear? Because whichever you’re feeding will determine your outlook... whether you have peace or anxiety.

It’s easy to spend a lot of time feeding our fear. Watching a lot of television, listening to certain kinds of music, going into secular arenas, reading the Newspaper, and/or watching the news, engaging in gossip, spending a great deal of time talking to people who are negative, etc. Now, don’t get me wrong, these things are not bad (and can surely be used to tell people about Jesus), but we need to be careful to feed our faith more than our fear.

There are many ways you can feed your faith. Of course, we’ll start with the obvious… go to church, read your Bible, pray, and be in Christian community. But here are a few more ways to feed your faith… get involved in a Bible study, have deep conversations with people about theology, doctrine, and what it is to have a biblical-world view, watch sermons from reputable pastors during the week, listen to leaders who challenge you in your faith (I love to listen to apologists because they help me to defend the Bible), read commentaries or other biblical resources. Feeding your faith will conquer fear and will help you mature in ways you never imagined. This is really speaking to me today. I plan to feed my faith more this week. Will you join me?
