Many years ago, God gave me a specific word for my son, Matt. On three different occasions when I was praying for him, God spoke into my heart that He had a GREAT plan for Matt’s life. I’m still waiting. In fact, sometimes waiting can be difficult. I often ask… “Oh, Lord, when?” You may have your own story of unanswered prayer (or at least what you think is unanswered prayer). Imagine how David felt. God had anointed him as king, but instead of sitting on the throne, he was sitting on the cold floor of a cave. Instead of being crowned, he was hiding for his life. I’m guessing that he knew exactly what he was talking about when he said, “I wait quietly before God.”
Here’s the thing… I’ve learned some things in this waiting time. Things that keep my hope alive and give me confidence. One specific thing I’ve learned is to go back in Scripture and see the faithfulness of God. God had given Jeremiah a message for His people…. “In 70 years, you will be delivered from Babylon and you’ll be able to return to your homeland.” It happened exactly as God had said. God had promised Abraham/Sarah and Zechariah/Elizabeth that they would have a son in their old age. It happened exactly as God had said.
God had told Noah that He was going to destroy the earth with a flood. It happened exactly as He had said. God told Isaiah that nobody would listen. It happened exactly as He had said. And the best one is that God said He would send a deliverer. And it happened exactly as He had said. There are many predictions in the Bible that happened exactly the way God said it would happen.
Examining the faithfulness of God throughout Scripture has kept my faith strong, especially in the waiting. Waiting on God means that I trust Him no matter what… I trust in His purposes, His promises, His timing, and His sovereignty. Waiting on God means that I keep coming with my prayers, never giving up. Waiting on God means that I find enjoyment in His presence and that I worship Him today. Waiting on God means that I submit to His authority and plan for my life and the future of my children.
I’m not sure what you’re waiting on. But, let me encourage you to wait quietly today. Rest. Take joy in being with Jesus. Know that He’s singing over you, taking great delight in you and your loved ones. Hold tight. Just wait for Him, and in His perfect timing, He will do what He said He would do. Hope this encourages you today.
