When I was growing up, I was never chosen for anything great. I was always the last to be picked for the sports team, I was never chosen as the lead part in the play, my essays were never given gold ribbons, and I wasn’t selected for a school position. In fact, I was pretty normal… almost invisible. No one noticed me. No one watched what I was doing. No one followed me. You may have a similar story or perhaps you were the one who excelled in everything you did. Therefore, you were always noticed. Either way… it’s always nice to be selected, right?

The Bible says that God set apart His people. Hence, you and I were chosen by the King of the Universe. Imagine that! But here’s the most amazing part… you and I were selected by God for God. He looked down from His lofty throne and selected little ‘ole me. He did the same for you. This is a greater honor than any selection on this earth. We were noticed! We were chosen! And for a glorious purpose… for HIM!

Our key verse says: “The LORD set apart the godly for himself. The LORD will answer when I call to him.” The Bible expounds on this. Paul writes in Colossians 1:16: “Everything was created through him and for him.” Peter writes in 1 Peter 1:9: “You are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession.” And in speaking about our selection into the family of God, Paul says in Ephesians 1:6: “It gave him great pleasure.” My heart has truly been captured by these words this morning.

These verses tell me that God selected you… He selected me… for communion. He wants a relationship with His chosen people. We were created for His pleasure. He wants us to talk to Him, rest in Him, abide in Him, trust in Him. He wants us to share our lives with Him. He loves us beyond measure. He sees us. He cares what we’re doing. He notices us even if no one else does. He understands the deep things of our hearts. He showers on us compassion and mercy. In fact, everything we do matters to Him because He selected us.

As I ponder this, I want to walk with Him today…. Letting Him in, opening my heart and thoughts to Him. I want to hear Him speak today. I will purposely choose Him today because He chose me. I hope you’ll do the same.
