Higher Ground is a 10-week Bible study that takes us on a journey to deeper intimacy with Christ. **Weekly discussion questions included.
The book of Deuteronomy serves as the backdrop for this Bible study on intimacy. For four hundred years, the nation of Israel, God’s chosen people, lived in slavery in Egypt. When life for the Israelites became unbearable, they cried out to God. Their cries reached God’s ear and He sent Moses to deliver them from the hand of Pharaoh. God sent a promise with Moses… that He would lead them to a new land – a land of prosperity and freedom. God made good on His promise to deliver them, but adversity eventually hardened their hearts. Unbelief and rebellion infused the children of Israel. So, God caused them to wander in the wilderness for forty years. Every person who left Egypt, twenty years and older, would die in the desert before reaching the Promised Land.
The book of Deuteronomy was written at the end of those forty years. The words in this book are instructions and guidelines that would prepare His people for life in their new land. I believe we see God’s heart magnified in this book. What He longed for His people so many years ago is still at the core of His heart today. I pray this study will take us to higher ground in our quest to know God and to learn from the One who wants a relationship with us.
